Carl Stecker is the founder and CEO of Benefits in a Card (BIC), the Greenville, South Carolina company that has spent more than 30 years proving two things at once: temporary workers deserve real benefits, and staffing firms grow when they deliver them. With over four decades in health care and insurance, Carl has built his career on one conviction — meet people where they are — in service of who he calls the MVP: the Most Vulnerable People.
Carl founded Net Profit Advisors in 1992 and launched BIC in 1998 to serve a workforce most providers ignored. Today, BIC delivers unbundled, day-one-eligible benefits synced to weekly payroll, supported by a bilingual call center in its fourth decade, a no-fee service model, a two-year rate-lock guarantee, and more than 262 secure API integrations — an investment Carl made to protect the staffing industry’s data, not just his clients’. In 2025, BIC became a corporate partner of the American Staffing Association.
A serial founder, Carl also created Benefits Wizard, BIC’s proprietary reporting platform, and FreeRx.com, a prescription and virtual-care platform covering 1,000 medications across more than 70,000 pharmacies for entire families at under $7 a week — now serving more than 200,000 members. His latest innovation, Sky, is an AI-powered enrollment guide that recommends the coverage workers actually need.
A frequent presenter at ASA Staffing World and a regular guest on industry podcasts including The Staffing Show and Secrets of Staffing Success, Carl carries the same message to every stage: benefits aren’t an afterthought — they’re how you show people you care.
That conviction runs far deeper than business. For Carl and his wife, Cindy, their philanthropy through the Beach Ball Foundation — where Carl has served as a founding board member since 2003 — is one of the most important reasons they work as hard as they do: helping the MVP, the Most Vulnerable People. Carl also serves on the board of Legacy Charter School. And when the Stecker’s step away from the office, their favorite pastime is traveling with their family — with most trips finding their way to a good hunt or a good fishing hole.
